Ontario Family Law – Rule 24: Costs under the Family Law Rules
The Family Law Rules in relation to costs have been amended.
The amended r 24 confirms that an award of costs in family law cases is a summary process. The court can exercise a broad range of discretion when making an award for costs.
The parties are required to confer before each step in the case to try and settle costs, including the amount of costs.
The new rule also stipulates the requirements for written submissions, providing page limits and timelines for service and filing.
By Lawyers Family Law guides have been updated to reflect this change in law and practice.
